Week of Jan 7-13

Happy New Year! January is going to be a really busy month for the KLB, here is what you need to know!

Thank you to all of the skaters and families that participated in this weekend’s bottle drive. We had well over 65 people helping out! Final tally will be announced soon!

IMPORTANT: On January 10 (Thursday) all Coyotes and up are invited to a special practice which will be led by Sylvie. Start time will be 4:00pm. Please let Sandi know if your skater will be attending.

BCLT: For those attending BCLT in Fort St John, please check your email for important information.

For skaters that are still on the fence – we still have a few spots on the bus. HOWEVER, you have to act FAST and let us know ASAP. Please send an email to kamloopslongblades@gmail.com if interested.

NEW PROGRAMS!

Blade Buddies Thursdays from 4:00 – 4:30

Blade buddies is an inclusive ice program for kids with or without disabilities.  The concept is to allow children to experience ice sport through play and games.    Children with physical disabilities may not be able to skate, but can still join the program with adaptations.  Children with anxiety issues may want to join with a friend or family member.  The goal is for the children to have fun on the ice, become comfortable in that environment, and to make some friends.  This program is more about physical literacy and enjoying the sensations of skating, than it is a classic Learn to Skate program.  Learning to skate is a potential outcome, but without the same structure as standard programs.

Fast Friends 4:30 – 5:15

Fast Friends is the next step up from Blade Buddies.  It is for children and teens who want to speed skate, but who are happier learning through play and games.  More emphasis will be on becoming better skaters, but without the same technical structure as our regular club program.

Participants will need cut resistant gloves, knee pads and helmets.  Neck guards and goggles are recommended.  They can use their own skates or club skates if some are available.

Cost: $120 for 8 sessions and both programs will start January 24th! Please spread the word. Registration form will be available later today!
